Trimming & pruning

Tree Trimming & Pruning, done carefully.

A good trim is mostly about what you leave. We take out crossing and rubbing limbs, thin the crown so wind moves through it instead of pushing against it, and raise low branches off the roof, the driveway and the sidewalk. When we’re done the tree should still look like itself, just healthier and lighter.

Homeowners and businesses around Lee's Summit book us for recurring pruning, because trees keep growing. The big oaks and maples over older houses, and the Bradford pears planted in so many subdivisions, all do better with a trim every few years. If a tree doesn’t need anything yet, we’ll tell you that too.

People come back. Kathryn Slinkard hired us a second time because she was so pleased with the first trim, and Dakota Corum’s four overgrown trees were “looking great again” when we left.

What you get

What a trim includes

  • Crown thinning to cut wind load and let light through to the lawn
  • Crown raising off roofs, driveways, sidewalks and streets
  • Dead, crossing and rubbing branches removed
  • Clearance from siding, gutters and chimneys
  • Cuts made at the branch collar so the tree can seal the wound
  • All clippings and limbs hauled away

  2. Limbs hang low over the driveway, sidewalk or street
  3. The canopy is so dense the grass underneath won’t grow
  4. You can see dead branches up in the crown
  5. The tree has never been pruned, and it’s been years
  6. One side has grown heavy and lopsided over the house

This is the second time I’ve used My Tree Guys tree trimming service, because I was so pleased with the work done the first time.

Questions

Tree Trimming & Pruning FAQ

When is the best time to trim?

For most shade trees, late fall through winter: the leaves are down, the tree is dormant and the structure is easy to see. Oaks are best pruned outside of spring and early summer to avoid spreading oak wilt. Dead or broken limbs can come off any time of year.

How often should my trees be trimmed?

Most mature shade trees do well with a trim every few years. Young trees benefit from structural pruning early, while the cuts are small. We’ll tell you honestly if a tree doesn’t need anything yet.

Do you clean up after trimming?

Yes. Every limb and clipping is hauled away and the yard is cleaned up before we leave.
